Sierra Nevada Brewing Company is a really good all around producer of fine ales. It’s difficult to dislike any of their beers. Their Porter is a fine example of porters. I actually don’t have much to say about it as Sierra Nevada’s Porter (5.6% ABV) is really really good. He avoids spewing praise on good beer. I’m a big fan of porters and Planet Porter by Boulder Beer and Porter by Sierra Nevada are two of my favorites.
The body color is a very dark brown with a slight reddish tint (if you just look at it without light it appears black) and the head khaki. The aroma is roasty with just a hint of chocolate. The taste has a nice roasted bitterness (kind of like coffee or toffee). The head has a nice lacing that sticks to the inside of the glass. It poured into the glass slightly thicker than water but is very light (unlike some beers that appear to be syrupy or viscus).
Again I don’t have much more to say about this beer. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company has been around for 30 years and there is a reason. They are one of the best breweries in the country. Porter is yet another example of their excellence.
