As if they don’t have enough beers on the market, Boulevard Brewing Company has released their Amber Ale. I’ve said this before, but Amber ales are gateway beers. They are easy drinking and no matter who makes them they taste pretty similar. Boulevard’s Amber Ale fits that description to a T.
The body color is amber (shocking, isn’t it) with an off white head. The aroma is mostly malty with maybe a hint of toastedness. The taste is slightly hoppier than I expected, but in a very positive way. The hoppiness seems a bit on the citrusy side. Not much but a little. It’s also semi-sweet and semi-dry. Other than that there is not much else to say. It’s an Amber ale and I don’t think there is anything special about it. I think the slightly hoppy, but without going full American (AKA really freaking hoppy) Amber is special.
This is a great beer to drink a lot of when hanging out with friends. This is one that you could probably drink from the bottle. I don’t think you would miss much. Being able to pick up a six pack of craft beer and toss back with friends is sometimes what we need more of; I don’t always like being concerned with whether or not I’m going to like it. It is nice to just know what it’s going to taste like even if you’ve never had it before. Boulevard’s Amber Ale fits that bill.
