Well since we were married a mere 7 months ago we decided we needed to come up with our own family traditions for Christmas. The one I’m most proud of is our beer doughnuts. Yeah you heard me correctly, beer doughnuts. Thanks to BeerAdvocate for the basic recipe for that. We took their recipe and changed it up. What did we make? My favorite was the Map-Ale Bacon. That was Tallgrass Ale in the doughnut with a maple frosting and bacon for sprinkles. The other one was still very good but didn’t have the bacon so it scored a half point less (and yes the scoring system was totally made up, both doughnuts were awesome). The second doughnut was an IPA based doughnut with a chocolate Buffalo Sweat glaze. Here’s what they looked like;
So what do you think? Is this the best family tradition ever or what? I can’t wait to see what we come up with next year. If you are really curious about how they were, I took a dozen of them to the Tallgrass Brewing group for an early morning breakfast.
